Freedom to choose...as discovered by my 8 year old

"But Daddy you can't make me do it...I can choose not to!"

Yes she has it figured out...she has free will and she is not afraid to use it. But one of the "blessings" of having 2 theology and philosophy major parents is that the definition that
Freedom=doing whatever I want, whenever I want...does not work in this house.

Why not? Because we love one another too much to live that way!

Kids today have to face issues much earlier than before. Their consciences are very fragile...and we are asked to help form them...

So when my 8 year says "I am free and can do as I want"... What do I do?

Do I bend? Do I yell? Do I freak out about what life will be like when she is 16?

No...I pass the buck to Courtney...who says so beautifully...

"You are free to choose, so choose what is right and good, not just for you, but for this family. That us the loving thing, even though it is not the easy thing..."

So once again I am blown away, and oh so thankful for such grace filled moments where truth shines forth from the mouths of our children and we are called to holiness!

Today I am so Thankful for the freedom to choose. To choose the Good...which is to love...my God, My husband, my children, and my country...( and even choose to wash the dishes when I don't feel like it!)

Thanks Malia, once again through your struggle to always do what is right you have reminded this family of the importance of our freedom and to not take it for granted!

Have a great Election Day!
